A3.5 C<strong>on</strong>taminant Spill ReportsData <strong>on</strong> c<strong>on</strong>taminant spills reported between March and June <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> 2007 in the <strong>Fraser</strong><strong>River</strong> Basin were compiled from Dangerous Goods Incident Reports (DGIR) providedby the B.C. Ministry <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Envir<strong>on</strong>ment. Spill type, date <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> spill, descripti<strong>on</strong> and locati<strong>on</strong><str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> spill were all compiled from the Dangerous Goods Incident Reports. In additi<strong>on</strong>, oilspills reported in the <strong>Fraser</strong> <strong>River</strong> were compiled from data collected by the CanadianCoast Guard.These compiled data were used to assess the potential for co-locati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>taminantsand sockeye salm<strong>on</strong> during the smolt outmigrati<strong>on</strong>, which could affect sockeye salm<strong>on</strong>health and productivity <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the 2009 return.A3.6 C<strong>on</strong>taminated SitesData <strong>on</strong> the locati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>taminated sites in the <strong>Fraser</strong> <strong>River</strong> Basin were compiledfrom the Treasury Board <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Canada=s Federal C<strong>on</strong>taminated Sites Inventory. Inadditi<strong>on</strong> to geographical locati<strong>on</strong>, this database c<strong>on</strong>tains informati<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> envir<strong>on</strong>mentalmedia affected (i.e., groundwater, sediment, soil, surface soil, surface water), volumeor area <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>taminati<strong>on</strong>, the identity or types <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>taminants present, last stepcompleted (e.g., initial or detailed testing program, site classificati<strong>on</strong> process), andclass <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> site (e.g., acti<strong>on</strong> required, acti<strong>on</strong> not likely required).A3.7 Metro Vancouver Sediment AssessmentIn 2006, ENKON Envir<strong>on</strong>mental Limited c<strong>on</strong>ducted a sediment m<strong>on</strong>itoring program inthe Lower <strong>Fraser</strong> <strong>River</strong> for the Metro Vancouver Regi<strong>on</strong>al District (ENKONEnvir<strong>on</strong>mental Ltd. 2007). The m<strong>on</strong>itoring program was designed to meet acommitment to the District=s Liquid Waste Management Plan.Sediment data were collected at seven sites in the Lower <strong>Fraser</strong> <strong>River</strong> (downstream <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>McMillan Island, downstream <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Barnst<strong>on</strong> Island, Sappert<strong>on</strong> Channel, AnnacisChannel, Ewen Slough, Tree Island Slough, and McD<strong>on</strong>ald Slough) in 2006.Parameters measured in the sediments included: c<strong>on</strong>venti<strong>on</strong>al parameters, fecalcoliforms, total metals, PAHs (including alkylated PAHs), PCBs, organochlorinepesticides, various surfactants and plasticisers, dioxins and furans, PBDEs, andestradiols and sterols.Data were compiled from the m<strong>on</strong>itoring program report and incorporated into theproject database for use in the assessment <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> potential effects <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>taminants <strong>on</strong><strong>Fraser</strong> <strong>River</strong> sockeye salm<strong>on</strong>.A-22
