Section 5 Common Matching - FunctionalNew FormWildcards and Special CharactersYou can use this form to search for identification records, and you do not need touse wildcard characters (%). You can enter partial information without using awildcard character.The programming logic treats searching and creating data differently:• If you enter % in the First Name field, for example, and create a new record,% will be stored as the person's first name.• If you use a wildcard to search for a record, the Common Matching process willstrip it out. The process removes special characters and forces the data to beuppercase.For example, if you search for Jon%s, the Common Matching process willsearch for JONS, and Jones will not be considered a match.First name is required for all searches for person records. If you want to search onlast name only, you can enter the last name and enter a special character for the firstname.Button DetailThe following buttons are used on GOAMTCH:• Create NewSelect this button if the Common Matching process does not return a recordthat matches the one you are entering, or if none of the potential matches thatwas returned matches the record you are entering. This creates a new PIDM inBanner. If biographical data, email address, telephone number, or completeaddress information has been entered in the Data Entry block, thecorresponding records will created in Banner.• Select IDSelect this button if Common Matching has found an existing record that is amatch for the one you are entering. This populates the form on which you wereentering data with the existing Banner data for that person or non-person. Youare automatically taken back to the original form, and a new PIDM is not addedto the database.• Update IDSelect this button if Common Matching has found a record that matches theone you're entering, and you have entered information in GOAMTCH thatshould be added to the existing record.
