Section 3 Concurrent Curricula Phase I - FunctionalOverviewSection 3Concurrent Curricula Phase I - FunctionalThis enhancement is new for Release 7.0.OverviewThe concurrent curricula enhancement allows an institution to record and usemultiple curricula for a person as they move through the student cycle. Phase I ofthis enhancement delivers the structure used by concurrent curricula to store themultiple curricula. This structure provides a means to maintain a completehistorical picture of a person’s curricula. This phase does not provide newfunctionality that uses the multiple curricula, although it does allow you toimmediately store unlimited curricula.Curriculum data is being moved out of the Recruiting, Admissions, GeneralStudent, and Academic History tables, into two separate, distinct curriculum tables. One table allows for the entry of unlimited curricula, while the other storesunlimited majors, minors, and concentrations per curriculum. Curricula can beprioritized as primary, secondary, etc. and are controlled by rules on SOACTRL asto the number of curricula, majors, minors, and concentrations that can be attachedto a record.Along with new database objects delivered with this enhancement, ApplicationProgramming Interfaces (APIs) are used to update the original curricula columnsso that existing processes will continue to recognize and reference the originalcurriculum data (two majors, two minors, six concentrations). In a 7.x release, functionality and rules will be implemented to allow for the tracking and use ofconcurrent curricula. At that time, the API used to update the original curriculacolumns will be desupported. The Banner 7.0 lays the foundation for concurrent curricula. The following updatesare included in the release:• Two new tables are delivered to store all curriculum data for a learner.• A new data entry window has been created to allow the entry of unlimitedcurricula (concurrent curricula), as well as unlimited majors, minors, andconcentrations associated with a curriculum.• A backfill process is used to update the original curriculum columns so thatexisting processes will continue to function in the same way as in Banner 6.X.All existing Banner baseline processes will continue to read curriculuminformation from the existing primary and secondary curriculum fields, ratherthan from the associated fields in the new tables.January 2005 Student Release 7.0Confidential Release Guide 41
