The disadvantages of tourism development are as follows:<br />

– Lack of two- and three-star hotels.<br />

– Outdated tourist infrastructure.<br />

– Low quality of tourist service.<br />

– Lack of tourist agencies in the regions.<br />

– Poor condition of the local roads and access roads to the historical monuments.<br />

– Lack of entertainment.<br />

– Lack of high-quality catering facilities and souvenir/hand-made thing trading objects.<br />

– Absence of the strategy to use tourist potential.<br />

– Deficient management of tourism development.<br />

– Poor level of tourist routes marketing.<br />

– Lack of tourist information centers.<br />

– Low service quality at guesthouses and lack of guesthouses.<br />

– Lack of local guides.<br />

– Lack of cultural and entertainment arrangements.<br />

The threats of tourism development are as follows:<br />

– Pollution of tourist zones and decline in the tourist potential owing to the deficient waste<br />

management system.<br />

– Decline in the forest fund and environment degradation.<br />

– Political instability and decline in the number of foreign tourists in the country.<br />

– Increased prices of energy carriers.<br />

– Near location to the border.<br />

– Natural calamities.<br />

Deriving from the hereof analysis, we can clearly see that weaknesses of tourism development<br />

in Georgia are mainly linked with scarcity of tourism infrastructure. Despite of the<br />

economic and climatic crises in the country, the sector of tourism of Georgia shows some<br />

progress and the future prognosis is also quite optimistic based on the volume of recent investments<br />

to the tourism infrastructure in the regions of the country (Table N2). Correspondingly,<br />

increasing investments facilitate to international incomes, higher number of employed in<br />

tourism sector and increase of income from tourism, which is evidenced with higher assignments<br />

to the State Budget. The undertakings provided by the Government in view of stimulation<br />

of development of tourism are as follows: development of tourism infrastructure,<br />

improvement of service quality, wide-scale marketing campaigns on internal and international<br />

markets, introduction to the new markets and promotion of touristic products.
