and superannuation, scientists are being inducted every year as required bythe<br />

laboratories. DRDO follows online receipt of applications under all recruitment<br />

and assessment activities thereby discontinuing the offline/ paper application<br />

in DRDO. It has a total strength of 25,966 employees, out of which 7,574 are in<br />

Defence Research and Development Service (DRDS), 9,643 in Defence Research<br />

and Technical Cadre (DRTC) and 8,775 are in Administration and Allied Cadre.<br />

The DRDO ensures training to all cadres of personnel through training<br />

institutes, like DIAT, Pune (for technical courses); ITM, Mussoorie (for technomanagerial<br />

programmes) and Defence Laboratory, Jodhpur (for technical,<br />

administrative and allied cadre). Every year few selected scientists are deputed<br />

to undergo ME/ MTech/ PhD at <strong>India</strong>n Institute of Technology (IIT), <strong>India</strong>n<br />

Institute of Science (IISc) and other reputed <strong>India</strong>n universities under the<br />

sponsorship programme. A Targeted Training Centre has been set up at Dr<br />

Raja Ramanna Complex, Bangalore for DRDO scientists. Continuing Education<br />

Programme (CEP) are also part of DRDO annual training schedule.<br />

Resettlement of Ex-Servicemen<br />

The Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (DESW) formulates various policies<br />

and programmes for the welfare and resettlement of Ex-Servicemen (ESM) in<br />

the country. The Department has two Divisions viz. Resettlement and Pension,<br />

and 3 Attached Offices namely Kendriya Sainik Board Sectt. (KSB Sectt.),<br />

Directorate General (Resettlement) (DGR) and Central Organisation, Ex-<br />

Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (CO, ECHS).<br />

Kendriya Sainik Board<br />

Kendriya Sainik Board (KSB) Sectt is the apex body of government of <strong>India</strong><br />

responsible for implementing government policies for welfare of war-widows/<br />

disabled soldiers, ESM and their dependents. It is assisted in its task by 32<br />

Rajya Sainik Boards and 392 Zila Sainik Boards. The Armed Forces Flag Day<br />

Fund(AFFDF) is the major source for providing financial assistance to needy<br />

war widows/disabled, ESM and their dependents.<br />

Directorate General of Resettlement<br />

Directorate General of Resettlement (DGR) is a Tri-Service organization which<br />

looks after various aspects of resettlement and offers multifarious avenues of<br />

Employment, Self Employment and Training to Officers, JCOs/OR and their<br />

equivalents in other Services as well as widows and dependents. Nearly 60,000<br />

Armed Forces personnel retire or are released from active service every year,<br />

most of them being in the comparatively younger age bracket of 35 to 45 years<br />

and need a second career to support their families. These personnel constitute<br />

a valuable, disciplined, well-trained, dedicated and talented pool available for<br />

nation building.
