Online Core Business Integrated System and National<br />

Aerogeophysical Mapping Programme<br />

GSI launched, in 2017, an Online Core Business Integrated System (OCBIS)<br />

which is a state-of-the-art IT enabled system encapsulating all the main activities<br />

of GSI using an online digital platform. The workflow of GSI from data<br />

acquisition to data storage, analysis and dissemination is digitally captured in<br />

this system, besides all the administrative and financial activities of GSI. All<br />

available baseline geoscience data of GSI is uploaded on geospatial platform<br />

for viewing and extracting free of cost.<br />

<strong>India</strong>n Bureau of Mines<br />

<strong>India</strong>n Bureau of Mines (IBM) established in March, 1948, is a multi-disciplinary<br />

scientific and technical organisation under Ministry of Mines with statutory<br />

and developmental responsibilities for conservation and systematic exploitation<br />

of mineral resources other than coal, petroleum and natural gas, atomic minerals<br />

and minor minerals.<br />

The <strong>India</strong>n Bureau of Mines performs regulatory functions under the<br />

relevant provisions of the Mines and Mineral (Development and Regulation)<br />

Act, 1957 amended in 2015 and rules made there undernamely enforcement of<br />

the Mineral Conservation and Development Rules, 2017, Minerals (Other than<br />

Atomic and Hydro Carbon Energy Minerals) Concession Rules, 2016 and other<br />

new rules and Environmental (Protection) Act, 1986 and Rules made thereunder.<br />

It also undertakes scientific, techno-economic, research oriented studies in<br />

various aspects of mining geological studies, ore beneficiation and<br />

environmental studies.<br />

IBM provides technical consultancy services to the mining industry for<br />

the geological appraisal of mineral resources, and the preparation of feasibility<br />

report of mining projects, including beneficiation plants. It prepares mineral<br />

maps and countrywide inventory of mineral resources of leasehold and freehold<br />

areas. It also promotes and monitors community development activities in<br />

mining areas. IBM also functions as data bank of mines and minerals and<br />

publishes statistical information. It also brings out technical publications/<br />

monographs/bulletins on mineral commodities. It advises the central and state<br />

governments on all aspects of mineral industry, trade, legislation etc. IBM has<br />

taken many initiatives towards digital <strong>India</strong>.<br />

The Ministry of Mines has Three Public Sector Undertaking (PSUs) under<br />

its administrative control. National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO),<br />

Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) are operating in the field of mining and<br />

mineral processing, and Mineral Exploration Corporation Limited (MECL) is<br />

operating in the field of mineral exploration.
