National Medicinal Plants Board<br />

National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) is an apex national body which coordinates<br />

all matters relating to medicinal plants sector in the country. The Board<br />

was established in 2000 and acts as advisory body to the concerned ministries,<br />

departments and Agencies in strategic planning of medicinal plants related<br />

initiatives and to plan and provide financial support to programmes relating to<br />

conservation, cultivation and also all round development of medicinal plants<br />

sector.<br />

AYUSH Services<br />

The National AYUSH Mission (NAM) is a turning point as it inter-alia envisages<br />

better access to AYUSH services through increase in number of AYUSH hospitals<br />

and dispensaries, ensure availability of AYUSH drugs and trained manpower.<br />

It also aims at Improvement in quality of AYUSH Education through<br />

enhancement in the number of upgraded educational Institutions, sustained<br />

availability of quality raw materials and improved availability of quality<br />

Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy (ASU &H) drugs through increase<br />

in number of pharmacies, setting up of drug laboratories in the states which are<br />

responsible for enforcement mechanism of ASU &H drugs.<br />

AYUSH Pharmacopoeial Laboratories<br />

(i)<br />

Pharmacopoeial Laboratory for <strong>India</strong>n Medicine (PLIM)<br />

Pharmacopoeial Laboratory for <strong>India</strong>n Medicine (PLIM) is a subordinate office<br />

of Ministry of AYUSH located at Ghaziabad. The laboratory was established in<br />

1970 as a Pharmacopoeial Standards Setting - cum Drugs testing laboratory at<br />

national level for Ayurvedic, Siddha and Unani (ASU) Medicine. It acts as an<br />

appellate laboratory for testing of Ayurvedic, Siddha and Unani (ASU) drugs<br />

under Drugs & Cosmetic Act, 1940. The Pharmacopoeial Laboratory for <strong>India</strong>n<br />

Medicine was established with the objective to develop and validate<br />

Pharmacopoeial standardization of single drugs and compound formulations<br />

for incorporation in Ayurvedic, Siddha and Unani Pharmacopoeias and analysis<br />

of legal drugs samples received from Drugs Control Authorities and Courts.<br />

Homeopathic Pharmacopoeial Laboratory (HPL)<br />

Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia Laboratory, Ghaziabad was set up as a national<br />

laboratory for the purpose of laying down standards and testing for identity,<br />

purity and quality of homoeopathic medicines. The laboratory also functions<br />

as central drug laboratory for the testing of homoeopathic medicines. Standards<br />

worked out by the laboratory are published in the Homoeopathic<br />

Pharmacopoeia of <strong>India</strong> (HPI). The Department of Science and Technology has<br />

recognized HPL as Science and Technology Institution.<br />

(iii) Pharmacopoeia Commission for <strong>India</strong>n Medicines & Homeopathy (PCIM & H)<br />

Development of quality standards on Ayurvedic, Siddha, Unani and<br />

Homoeopathic Medicine and their periodic update to the needs of the consumers
