to geographical area. It has an extremely rich rare book collection, with a large<br />

biographic collection.<br />

It provides all possible readers' services to central government officials<br />

and other research scholars visiting the library from all over <strong>India</strong>. In the recent<br />

past, the CSL has digitized the Government of <strong>India</strong> gazette, committee and<br />

commission reports and has also developed the Online Public Access Catalogue<br />

(OPAC) system for its collection.<br />

The library has two branches, namely, Hindi and regional languages wing<br />

popularly known as Tulsi Sadan Library, Bahawalpur House, New Delhi that<br />

houses about 1.9 lakh volumes of Hindi and 13 other constitutionally approved<br />

<strong>India</strong>n regional language books and a text book library located at R.K. Puram,<br />

New Delhi which caters to the need of the wards of Central Government<br />

employees of undergraduate level.<br />

Nehru Memorial Museum and Library<br />

The Nehru Memorial and Museum and Library comprises a Museum on the<br />

life and times of Jawaharlal Nehru; the research and publication division; a<br />

library that has a pre-eminent position among the social science libraries in the<br />

country; the oral history division; the manuscripts division; the centre for<br />

contemporary studies; the planetarium; and the Nehru learning centre for<br />

children and youth. The Archive is the biggest collections of private papers of<br />

individuals and institutions, especially from the freedom struggle. This vast<br />

repository of <strong>India</strong>'s modern and contemporary history is used by scholars and<br />

academics from all over the world extensively for their research work.<br />

Currently, NMML has been tasked to build a Museum on Prime Ministers<br />

of <strong>India</strong> covering their lives and contributions. The oral history division processes<br />

the audio recordings and transcripts of leaders of modern and contemporary<br />

<strong>India</strong>. The NMML has recorded the reminiscences of 1364 personalities and out<br />

of them 931 interview transcripts are available in physical form.<br />

The centre for contemporary studies runs a Fellowship programme (thirtytwo<br />

Fellows) which is highly regarded in the academic world, it also regularly<br />

conducts academic activities such as lectures, conferences, book discussions,<br />

panel discussions, conferences/workshops, etc.<br />

The publications division brings out the works of pre-eminent persons<br />

from the social sciences, proceeds of conferences, seminars, and also publishes<br />

a research series called occasional papers.<br />

The planetarium, the only one in Delhi region, is visited by thousands<br />

including school children, college students, teachers, and general public for<br />

first-hand knowledge on astronomy and space technology.<br />

National Mission on Libraries<br />

National Mission on Libraries has been set up by Ministry of Culture, in 2012 in<br />

pursuance of National Knowledge Commission recommendations for sustained<br />

attention for development of libraries and information science sector.
