These activities provide a unique platform for exchange of ideas,<br />

culture and experiences between <strong>India</strong> and other countries in the field of<br />

cinema. It also provides a powerful platform for <strong>India</strong>n cinema and fosters<br />

commercial opportunities for <strong>India</strong>n films. Within the country, the latest<br />

trends in global cinema are made accessible to the general public, film<br />

industry and students.<br />

International Film Festival of <strong>India</strong><br />

The 47th International Film Festival of <strong>India</strong> (IFFI), organized jointly by the<br />

Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Government of Goa,<br />

successfully concluded on November 28, 2016, after nine days of film<br />

screenings, master classes, discussions and other events. 193 films in all from<br />

88 countries were screened at 47th IFFI.<br />

ICFT- UNESCO<br />

The International Film Festival of <strong>India</strong> (IFFI) 2016 in collaboration with the<br />

International Council for Film, Television and Audiovisual Communication<br />

(ICFT), Paris, presented a separatecompetetive section of 8 films.<br />

National Film Awards<br />

The National Film Awards, the highest awards in the field of cinema<br />

continue to underline cinematic excellence. The National Awards along with<br />

cinema’s highest honour, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, are presented by<br />

the President of <strong>India</strong>. To commemorate the release of the first <strong>India</strong>n<br />

Feature Film, Raja Harishchandra on 3rd May 1913, It has been decided to<br />

confer the National Film Awards on 3rd May of every year. Accordingly,<br />

64th National Film Awards were given away for 2016.<br />

64th National Film Awards<br />

The award for Best Feature Film was bagged by 'Kasaav' (Marathi) directed by<br />

Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukthankar. The award for Best Popular Film Providing<br />

Wholesome Entertainment was given to 'Sathamanam Bhavathi' (Telugu)<br />

directed by V.V.Reddy. The Best Actor award was presented to Akshay Kumar<br />

for the film 'Rustom' (Hindi) and Best Actress to Surbhi C M for the film<br />

'Minnaminungu - the Firefly' (Malayalam). The film 'Fireflies In The Abyss'<br />

directed by Chandrashekhar Reddy was adjudged the Best Non-Feature Film.<br />

The Best Book on Cinema Award was given to 'Lata : Sur Gatha' written by<br />

Yatindra Mishra, whereas G. Dhananjayan was awarded Best Film Critic. The<br />

prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2016 was presented to
