Institute of Pesticide Formulation Technology<br />

Institute of Pesticide Formulation Technology (IPFT) was established in 1991 as<br />

an autonomous institution under the Department of Chemicals and<br />

Petrochemicals. IPFT is a NABL accredited laboratory for testing of pesticides<br />

technical and formulation, pesticide residues in various food matrices and CWC<br />

related chemicals. One of the main objeectives of the Institute is the development<br />

of user and environment friendly pesticide formulation technology. IPFT has<br />

established a healthy support with the Pesticide Industries and has been able<br />

to successfully transfer more than fifty formulation technologies to <strong>India</strong>n and<br />

foreign companies. IPFT is significantly contributing towards new generation<br />

pesticide formulations through formulation technologies including<br />

Nanotechnology based Nano-emulsions, Microemulsions Controlled Release<br />

Formulations (CRF), Microencapsulation and Tablet Formulations.<br />

IPFT is conducting training courses for various stakeholders in chemical/<br />

agrochemical sector. Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)<br />

recognized IPFT as programme study centre for post graduate diploma in<br />

analytical chemistry (PGDAC). This course is useful component of skill<br />

development initative as participants from various stakeholders are attending<br />

this PGDAC course.<br />

Pharmaceutical Sector<br />

The Cabinet Secretariat notified creation of a new Department, namely the<br />

Department of Pharmaceuticals, which came into being from 2008 with the<br />

objective to give greater focus and thrust on the development of pharmaceutical<br />

sector in the country and to regulate various complex issues related to pricing<br />

and availability of medicines at affordable prices, research and development,<br />

protection of intellectual property rights and international commitments related<br />

to pharmaceutical sector which required integration of work with other<br />

ministries.<br />

Pharmaceuticals Pricing Policy<br />

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Policy-2012 was notified in 2012 with the<br />

objective to put in place a regulatory framework for pricing of drugs to ensure<br />

availability of required medicines - "essential medicines" - at reasonable prices,<br />

even while providing sufficient opportunity for innovation and competition to<br />

support the growth of industry, thereby meeting the goals of employment and<br />

shared economic well being for all. Subsequently, to implement the NPPP-2012,<br />

the new Drugs (Prices Control) Order was notified in 2012 to control the prices<br />

of specified dosages and strengths as under National List of Essential Medicines-<br />

2011(NLEM-2011). This was modified to include medicines included in NLEM-<br />

2015 after the same was received from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare<br />

who had constituted an Expert Core Committee to review and recommend the
