- for libraries/book banks/teaching learning material followed by an annual<br />

grant of ` 5,000/-. A grant up to a maximum amount of `15,000/- for purchase<br />

of science/math kits and other pedagogical equipment. Madarsas which have<br />

been in existence at least for three years and registered under central or state<br />

government Acts or Madarsas Board or with Waqf Boards or NIOS are eligible<br />

to apply for assistance under this programme.<br />

Training will be arranged in groups for Madarsas teachers appointed under<br />

the scheme by SCERTs/DIETs/BRCs. Madarsas with respect to whom<br />

expenditure on account of honorarium of the teachers is met by the state<br />

government will not be eligible for salary component under the scheme.<br />

Madarsas receiving financial assistance for teacher training, text books,<br />

computers, science/maths kits etc. from any other state/central scheme will<br />

not be eligible for that component under this scheme.<br />

Infrastructure Development for Minority Institute<br />

The Scheme facilitates education of minorities by strengthening school<br />

infrastructure in minority institutions. The scheme covers the entire country. It<br />

will fund infrastructure development of private aided/unaided minority<br />

elementary/ secondary/senior secondary schools to the extent of 75 per cent<br />

and subject to a maximum of ` 50 lakhs per school. Organizations that are<br />

recognised by central or state government shall be eligible to apply, should<br />

have been functioning for at least last 3 years and have substantial enrolment<br />

of children from minorities. The scheme is implemented through the state<br />

governments and all requests for financial assistance are entertained by the<br />

state government in the prescribed application form.<br />

National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme<br />

The Centrally Sponsored 'National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme<br />

(NMMSS)' was launched in 2008 with the objective to award scholarships to<br />

meritorious students of economically weaker sections to arrest their drop out at<br />

class VIII and encourage them to continue study at secondary and higher<br />

secondary stage up to class XII. One lakh scholarships of ` 6,000/- per annum<br />

(` 500/- per month) per student are awarded to selected students every year<br />

for study in class IX and their continuation up to class XII in a state government,<br />

government-aided and local body schools. There is quota of scholarships for<br />

different states/UTs. Students whose parental income from all sources is not<br />

more than `1,50,000/- are eligible to avail the scholarships. There is reservation<br />

as per the state government norms. The selection of students for the scholarships<br />

is made through an examination conducted by the state governments.<br />

Scholarships are disbursed by State Bank of <strong>India</strong> directly by electronic transfer<br />

into the bank accounts of students on quarterly basis following DBT mode.<br />

National Scheme of Incentive to Girls<br />

The centrally sponsored 'National Scheme of Incentive to Girls for Secondary<br />

Education (NSIGSE)' was launched in 2008 with the objective to establish an
