Agriculture<br />

Rice is the major food crop of the state. Other important crops are tobacco,<br />

mango, cotton and sugarcane. The major kharif coarse cereals maize, jowar,<br />

bajra, ragi are produced in the state. Out of the total geographical area 40.5 per<br />

cent is under net area sown, 23.9 per cent is under forests, 10.5 per cent is<br />

under current fallow lands, 7.7 per cent is under non-agricultural uses and 5.4<br />

per cent is under barren and uncultivable land. Net cropped area is 46.54 lakh<br />

hectares. Agriculture production depends upon the distribution of rainfall.<br />

The influence of south-west monsoon is predominant.<br />

Arts and Crafts<br />

Handicrafts have been an integral part of the state. The region offers many<br />

astounding handicrafts like bidri crafts, banjara needle crafts, dokra metal<br />

crafts, nirmal arts, bronze castings, lacquerware, etc. Be it an intricate needle<br />

craft or the surprising bronze castings, metal craft or the classic stone craft,<br />

Telangana has a wide assortment of handicrafts.<br />

Festivals<br />

‘Bathukamma’ is a colourful and vibrant festival and this unique festival of<br />

flowers stands as a symbol of cultural identity. “Bonalu” is an annual Hindu<br />

festival celebrated in the state in which Goddess Mahakali is worshipped.<br />

Dussehra, Samakka Saarakka Jaathara, Peerla Panduga, Ramzan are also largely<br />

celebrated in Telangana.<br />

History<br />

Tripura has its unique tribal culture and a fascinating folklore. The history of<br />

Tripura can be learnt from Rajmala chronicles of King Tripura and writings of<br />

historians. There are references of Tripura even in the Mahabharata and the<br />

Puranas. According to Rajmala, the rulers were known by the surname Fa<br />

meaning father. There is a reference to rulers of Bengal helping Tripura kings<br />

in the 14th century. Kings of Tripura had to face frequent Mughal invasions<br />

with varying successes. They defeated the Sultans of Bengal in several battles.<br />

Nineteenth century marked the beginning of the modern era in Tripura when
