Switzerland<br />

Switzerland has been extending economic and technical assistance to <strong>India</strong> since<br />

1964 in the form of grants and technical assistance. Switzerland had also<br />

provided mix credit comprising 40 per cent grant and 60 per cent loans for<br />

power sector project.<br />

U.S. Agency for International Development<br />

The United States of America (USA) bilateral development assistance to <strong>India</strong><br />

started in 1951. US assistance to <strong>India</strong> is mainly administered through the<br />

USAID. USAID is presently partnering with the Government of <strong>India</strong> to<br />

strengthen health systems; food security; accelerate transition to low emissions<br />

and energy secure economy; reduce greenhouse gas emissions through carbon<br />

sequestration by forests. Currently, following seven projects are being<br />

implemented by USAID in partnership with Government of <strong>India</strong>; viz. (i)<br />

Partnership Agreement for Agriculture and Food Security Programme;<br />

(ii)Partnership Agreement for Sustainable Forests and Climate Adaptation<br />

Programme; (iii) Partnership Agreement for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene<br />

(WASH); (iv) Partnership Agreement for Renewable Energy Technology<br />

Commercialization and Innovation; (v) Partnership Agreement for Health<br />

Project; (vi) Disaster Management Support Project; and (vii) Partnership<br />

Agreement for the Energy Efficiency Technology Commercialization and<br />

Innovation Project.<br />

United States Trade and Development Agency<br />

USTDA promotes economic growth in emerging economies by facilitating the<br />

participation of U.S. businesses in the planning and execution of priority<br />

development projects in host countries. The Agency's objectives are to help build<br />

the infrastructure for trade, match U.S. technological expertise with overseas<br />

development needs, and help create lasting business partnerships between the<br />

United States and emerging market economies. Since 1992, the U.S. Trade and<br />

Development Agency has supported over 100 priority development projects in<br />

<strong>India</strong> with public and private sector sponsors.<br />

Canada<br />

International Development Research Centre (IDRC) extends grant assistance<br />

to various governments and non-government organizations for projects in the<br />

field of agriculture, health and family welfare etc. For 2016-17, 10 proposals<br />

involving grants assistance of CAD 3.41 million were received by DEA for<br />

approval.<br />

Credit to Developing Countries<br />

Lines of Credit (LoC) form an important component of <strong>India</strong>'s diplomatic<br />

strategy and have been very useful in generating goodwill and building long<br />

term partnerships. The scheme also attempts to promote <strong>India</strong>'s strategic political<br />

and economic interest abroad by positioning it as an emerging economic power,<br />

investor country and partner for developing countries. The Scheme is also
