counseling at community level, skilled support for breastfeeding at delivery<br />

points, monitoring and award/recognition.<br />

Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight<br />

It is a programme to combat diarrheal mortality in children with the ultimate<br />

aim of zero child deaths due to childhood diarrhea. Intensified Diarrhoea Control<br />

Fortnight (IDCF) is being implemented as a campaign in the month of July,<br />

since 2014, for control of deaths due to diarrhoea across all states and UTs.<br />

Under this, more than 14.7 crore under-5 children have been reached since 2014<br />

by ASHA with prophylactic ORS. Main activities include intensification of<br />

advocacy activities, awareness generation activities, diarrhoea management<br />

service provision, establishing ORS-zinc demonstration sites, ORS distribution<br />

by ASHA through home visitation, detection of undernourished children and<br />

their treatment, promotion of infant and young child feeding activities by home<br />

visits by ASHA and establishing IYCF corners.<br />

National Deworming Day<br />

To combat Soil Transmitted Helminth (STH) infections, the Ministry has adopted<br />

a single day strategy called National Deworming Day (NDD) wherein single<br />

dose of albendazole is administered to children from 1-19 years of age group<br />

schools and anganwadi centres. Till February 2017, 27.8 crore children were<br />

administered albendazole.<br />

Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram<br />

This initiative launched in 2013 entails provision for Child Health Screening<br />

and Early Intervention Services through early detection and management of 4<br />

Ds i.e. defects at birth, diseases, deficiencies, development delays including<br />

disability and free management of 30 identified health conditions including<br />

surgery at tertiary health facilities. Children between 0-18 years of age are<br />

expected to be covered in a phased manner across the country.<br />

Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram<br />

The Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram (RKSK) was launched to provide<br />

information, commodities and services to meet the diverse needs of adolescents.<br />

The intervention under RKSK are: Weekly Iron Folic Supplementation: WIFS is<br />

evidence based programmatic response to the prevailing anaemia situation<br />

amongst adolescent girls and boys through supervised weekly ingestion of IFA<br />

supplementation. Menstrual Hygiene Scheme: The scheme aims to ensure that<br />

adolescent girls have adequate knowledge and information about menstrual<br />

hygiene and the use of sanitary napkins and high quality, safe products are<br />

made available to them with knowledge of environmentally safe disposal<br />

mechanisms; Peer Educator Programme: The Programme aims to ensure that<br />

adolescents are benefitted from regular and sustained peer education covering<br />

nutrition, sexual and reproductive health, and conditions for NCDs, substance
