Vocationalisation of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education<br />

The Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Vocationalisation of Secondary and Higher<br />

Secondary Education was revised in 2014 with a view to align it with the National<br />

Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) into which the NVEQF has been<br />

assimilated. The scheme has been subsumed Under Integrated Rashtriya<br />

Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan. The specific objectives of the scheme are to<br />

enhance the employability of youth through demand driven competency based,<br />

modular vocational courses; to maintain their competitiveness through<br />

provisions of multi-entry multi-exit learning opportunities and vertical<br />

mobility/interchange ability in qualifications; to fill the gap between educated<br />

and employable; and to reduce the dropout rate at the secondary level and<br />

decrease the pressure on academic higher education. The revised scheme while<br />

introducing vocational education at the secondary level, seeks to integrate<br />

vocational education with general education and provide horizontal and vertical<br />

mobility to the students.<br />

Coverage<br />

7448 schools in 32 states/UTs across 17 sectors - agriculture, apparel, automobile,<br />

beauty and wellness, banking/financial services and insurance, construction,<br />

electronics, health care, IT and ITeS, logistics, media and entertainment, multi<br />

skill, physical education and sports, retail, security, telecom, and tourism and<br />

hospitality were covered till 2016-17. Approximately 4 lakh 86 thousand students<br />

of 5,582 government schools are undergoing vocational courses across the nation.<br />

The vocational courses being offered under the scheme make these students<br />

employable and prepare them for the world of work. Around thousand students<br />

have been employed after completing NSQF level four courses from the schools.<br />

Construction and Running of Girl's Hostel<br />

The Centrally sponsored scheme of " Construction and Running of Girls Hostel<br />

(GH) for Students of Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools" was launched<br />

in 2008-09 and is being implemented from 2009-10 replacing the earlier NGO<br />

driven Scheme. The Scheme was subsumed under Rashtriya Madhyamik<br />

Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA). The main objective of the GH component of RMSA<br />

is to improve access and to retain the girl child in secondary and higher<br />

secondary classes (IX-XII) so that the girl students are not denied the opportunity<br />

to continue their study due to distance to school, parents financial affordability<br />

and other connected social factors. The girl students in the age group of 14-18<br />

years studying in classes IX- to XII belonging to SC, ST, OBC, minority<br />

community and BPL families form the target group of the Scheme.<br />

Inclusive Education for Disabled at Secondary Stage<br />

The Scheme of Inclusive Education for Disabled at Secondary stage (IEDSS)<br />

was launched in 2009-10 replacing the earlier scheme of Integrated Education<br />

for Disabled Children (IEDC). Inclusive Education for Disabled at Secondary<br />

Stage (IEDSS) component was subsumed under Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha
