Nadruz Coelho INTRODUÇÃO A família Araceae, pertencente à ordem Alismatales (monocotiledôneas), possui, como características principais, a presença de um espádice com flores uni ou bissexuais, subentendida por uma espata, ambas apoiadas num pedúnculo longo ou curto (Coelho, 2010). Apresenta uma notável diversidade morfológica, incluindo as menores angiospermas conhecidas (subfamília Lemnoideae) e uma das maiores estruturas vegetativas e reprodutivas (gênero Amorphophallus) (Henriques et al., 2014). A família está representada por 118 gêneros e, aproximadamente, 3.500 espécies (Boyce & Croat, 2011) com ampla distribuição, sendo predominantemente tropical, com cerca de 10% dos gêneros estendendo-se às zonas temperadas do norte. No Brasil, está representada por 36 gêneros e 477 espécies (Coelho et al., 2014), sendo encontrada em todo o território brasileiro, apresentando uma ampla variação ecológica, ocorrendo em diversas formações vegetais como florestas, restingas, campos e afloramentos rochosos, sendo mais abundante nas regiões de Floresta Ombrófila Densa (Coelho et al., 2009; 2012). Na região Sudeste, as espécies de Araceae somam 24 gêneros e 196 espécies, compreendendo 66,7% e 41,1%, respectivamente, do total para o Brasil, sendo os estados do Rio de Janeiro e Espírito Santo mais representativos. O Espírito Santo possui 15 gêneros e 77 espécies, distribuídas nos diversos tipos vegetacionais do estado, sendo Anthurium e Philodendron os mais numerosos (Coelho et al., 2014). A Reserva Natural Vale possui 25% da cobertura florestal natural existente no Espírito Santo e vem sendo objeto de pesquisa em botânica nos últimos 30 anos, cujos resultados mostram uma área de alta diversidade específica e rica em endemismos (Peixoto et al., 2008). AS ARACEAE DA RNV Os primeiros registros da família Araceae na área da Reserva datam da década de 1970, sendo que a partir de 2002 foram intensificados. Com o levantamento, num primeiro momento através da consulta a diversos herbários do Espírito Santo e Rio de Janeiro, contabilizou-se oito gêneros e 28 espécies. A partir de um esforço de coleta nas diversas formações vegetais encontradas, com registros fotográficos de partes vegetativas e/ ou reprodutivas e georeferenciamento com ajuda de GPS, o número total de espécies para a família evoluiu para 37 distribuídas em 11 gêneros (Tabela 1), onde Anthurium e Philodendron, cada um com 13 espécies, são os mais representativos.
