Wyniki leczenia operacyjnego czynnościowej niedomykalności mitralnej pozostają niejasne.
O ile poprawiają one z pewnością stan czynnościowy chorych, o tyle ich wpływ na przeżycie
jest dyskusyjny. Niestety większość wiedzy dotyczącej napraw czynnościowej niedomykalności
mitralnej opiera się o rejestry i badania retrospektywne. Konieczne wydaje się przeprowadzenie
randomizowanych badań prospektywnych porównujących zarówno wyniki leczenia umiarkowanej
niedokrwiennej niedomykalności mitralnej za pomocą rewaskularyzacji chirurgicznej
z lub bez plastyki zastawki mitralnej, jak i porównujących wyniki leczenia ciężkiej niedomykalności
mitralnej dwoma metodami: anuloplastyką lub wymianą zastawki mitralnej.
