Dr.G: - than there has yet been and you say that the thought of
this is one which makes you unhappy because it involves
terrible loss of life of innocent people, women and children,
in both countries. And, as I understand you, you say that
the mission with which you charged yourself is largely inspired
by that fact. I understand that. We won't argue about
what will happen if we did all this to-day, but you really
are making a statement for the British Government to
consider in view of what you fbelieve will be future developments,
isn't that so?

for our interview. I quite understand what you have already
been saying, but we now come to the point. If I might
suggest it, Herr Reichsminister, I would ask you briefly to
tell me what is the mission which you have undertaken, you
can say it, I have no doubt, quite clearly and briefly; I
think that is the most important thing for me to know.
J: Die Bedingungen, zu denen Deutschland zu einer Verstandigung
mit England bereit ware, habe ich vom Fiihrer erfahren
in einer grossen Zahl von Unterhaltungen mit ihm.
Wabei ich betonen muss, dass die Bedingungen von Kriegsbeginn
an immer die gleichen geblieben sind. Im Hinblick
auf die von mir selbst gewahlte Mission habe ich imrner
wieder, wenn es den Anschein hatte, dass ich den Flug
wagen konnte, den Fiihrer nach den Bedingungen gefragt.
