238 UBA-TEXTE 20/2006SummaryElectricity consumption and the potential for reduction in the sectors observedIn 2001, a total of 502 TWh (terawatt hours) of electricity was consumed by all endcustomers. Of this, about 49 % (= 246 TWh) was consumed by private households and thesmall-scale sector, whereby the distribution between the two was about the same(households: 26 %, small-scale sector: 23 %).The electricity consumption of the households without heating and warm water was about100 TWh. Small-scale sector electricity consumption, without heating but including officeusage in the industrial sector, was about 85 TWh /WI, ebök 2001/ (see also Figure 1). These185 TWh resulted in emissions of about 126 million tons of CO 2 equivalent; this is about13 % of the German federal CO 2 equivalent emissions. The observations in this report arebased upon this.The electricity consumption increased in private households by 7 % and in the small-scalesector by 11 % between 1991 and 2001. Increased efficiency in the individual equipmentcategories so far therefore could not compensate for the additional demand.
