4.3.2 Intransitive verbs. <strong>The</strong> intransitive verbs form a large <strong>and</strong> open class in FM <strong>Totonac</strong>. As<br />

noted above, there is no formal marking <strong>of</strong> level <strong>of</strong> transitivity in FM <strong>Totonac</strong>; the intransitive<br />

verbs are those which cannot be inflected with object markers without first undergoing some<br />

valence-increasing operation.<br />
