98 With Love to Muhammad sa the Khātam-un-Nabiyyīn
It must be clearly understood that the object of
this hadīth is to highlight the appointment of
Hazrat ‘Alī ra to act in the place of or as an in
charge of the region while the Holy Prophet sa
was to be absent from Medina during his
expedition to Tabūk. It was also done to
highlight Hazrat ‘Alī’s ra resemblance to Hazrat
Hārūn as when Hazrat Mūsā as had journeyed to
بدی the Mount. It is to be noted that the word
[ba‘adī] here means ری [ghairī: besides me]. It
does not mean after me in time. As we say that
in:
فَمَنْ‏ يهَّْدِيْهِ‏ ۢ مِنْ‏ بَعْدِ‏ ٰ اهللّ‏ ِ ؕ
(Who, then, will guide him other than Allāh? 84 ).
Allāh. [ba‘d-Allāh] means other than بدaاالله
He further states:
Here the word بدی [ba’adī] is not in the context
of ازa بدت [after his time] because Hazrat
Hārūn as did not outlive Hazrat Mūsā as . Hence,
the implied conclusion was not for a period
after the Holy Prophet sa for Hazrat ‘Alī ra . As a
result, there was no reason to make the
exception of a period after the Holy Prophet sa
for Hazrat ‘Alī ra .
What a powerful argument! Using the Holy Qur’ān,
Hazrat Shāh Waliullāh has put forth irrefutable
