“I am the Last Brick and I am the Last of the prophets” 145<br />

They interpret “the Seal of the prophets” as the brick<br />

needed for the completion of the building, while it<br />

(actually) means the prophet who has achieved An-<br />

Nubuwwah Al-Kāmilah (Complete prophethood) 142<br />

Just like he did in the case of Imām Ibn Hajar al-‘Asqalānī rh ,<br />

Farhan Khan has only tried <strong>to</strong> throw dust in the eyes of the<br />

readers in order <strong>to</strong> overshadow and hide the main purpose of<br />

the statement of Ibn Khaldūn given above. However, the truth<br />

of Ibn Khaldūn’s interpretation of the hadīth under discussion<br />

glares at him regardless. Ibn Khaldūn even goes a step further<br />

and explains how he understands the word “khātam” in terms of<br />

status:<br />

و aثون aاولاۃ aتاوت a aراتبا aبابوۃ aو aجونa<br />

احبaاالaاaخاتمaالاواءaأیaحازaارتبۃaاتa<br />

aخاتۃaاولاۃaاaانaخاتمaالاباءaحازا<br />

اتaaخاتۃaابوۃ۔aaاارعaنaتکaارتبۃa<br />

اخاتۃaببۃaابتaaاحدثaاذور۔a 143<br />

aرتبۃa ٍ<br />

The perfect saint is considered <strong>to</strong> be the “seal” of the<br />

saints, that is, the saint who is in the possession of the<br />

rank that is the final stage of sainthood, exactly as<br />

“the seal (Khātam) of the prophets” was the Prophet<br />

who was in possession of the rank that is the final<br />

stage of prophethood. In the tradition quoted, the<br />
