274 With Love to Muhammad sa the Khātam-un-Nabiyyīn
Other Verses on the Continuation of Prophethood
There are other verses of the Holy Qur’ān which prove
the fact that prophethood continues, that is, prophets may come
from among the followers of the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa .
For instance, Allāh, the Exalted, states:
‏ِنْ‏ كِتٰبٍ‏ وَّحِكمْ‏ ‏َةٍ‏ ثمُ‏ َّ جَآءَكمُ‏ ْ
وَاِذْ‏ اَخَذَ‏ اهللّ‏
رَسُ‏ وْلٌ‏ مُّ‏ صَ‏ دِّقٌ‏ لّ‏ ‏ِمَا مَعَكمُ‏ ْ لَتُؤْمِننُ‏ َّ بِهٖ‏ وَلَتَنْصرُ‏ ‏ُنَّ‏ ‏ٗه قَالَ‏ ءَاَقْرَ‏ رْ‏ تمُ‏ ْ
وَاَخَذْتمُ‏ ْ عَلىٰ‏ ذٰلِكمُ‏ ْ اِصرْ‏ ‏ِىْ‏ ؕ قَالُوْ‏ ‏ۤا اَقْرَ‏ رْ‏ انَ‏ ؕ قَالَ‏ فَاشْ‏ هَدُوْا وَاَانَ‏ مَعَكمُ‏ ْ
مّ‏ ‏ِنَ‏ الشّ‏
ٰ ُ مِيْثَاقَ‏ ٖ النَّبِينّ‏ َ لَمَاۤ‏ اٰتَيْتُكمُ‏ ْ مّ‏
ٰ هِدِيْنَ‏ ۝
And remember the time when Allāh took a covenant
from the people through the prophets, saying:
“Whatever I give you of the Book and Wisdom and
then there comes to you a messenger, fulfilling that
which is with you, you shall believe in him and help
him.” And He said: “Do you agree, and do you
accept the responsibility which I lay upon you in this
matter?” They said, “We agree;” He said, “Then bear
witness, and I am with you among the witnesses.” 271
This verse is known as the verse of ”(Theثاقaابن“‏ Covenant of
the Prophets) and Hazrat Mirzā Tāhir Ahmad rh , the 4 th successor
of the Promised Messiah as , explains it as follows:
The verse speaks of a covenant Allāh had taken from
the People of the Book through their prophets. The
covenant bound them to believe in all the messengers
