336 <strong>With</strong> <strong>Love</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>Muhammad</strong> sa the Khātam-un-Nabiyyīn<br />

and righteousness. Few auliyā’ullāh [friends of Allāh] appeared<br />

among the followers of Moses as and Jesus as . Most of them were<br />

disobedient, vicious and worshippers of the world. That is why<br />

the Torah and the Gospel make no mention of the evidence of<br />

their spiritual influence. The Torah frequently designates the<br />

companions of Moses as as disobedient, hard-hearted, sinful and<br />

rebellious. The Holy Qur’ān mentions that their disobedience<br />

had reached such a degree that on the occasion of a battle, their<br />

response <strong>to</strong> Moses as was:<br />

فَاذْهَبْ‏ اَنْتَ‏ وَرَ‏ بُّكَ‏ فَقَاتِلاَ‏ ۤ اِانَّ‏ هٰهُنَا قٰعِدُوْنَ‏<br />

That is: ‘Go thou and thy Lord and fight the enemy; here we<br />

shall sit.’<br />

Such was the measure of their disobedience. In contrast, the<br />

hearts of the companions of the Holy Prophet (peace and<br />

blessings of Allāh be upon him) were so inspired by love of<br />

God, and they were so affected by the spiritual attention of the<br />

Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him), that<br />

they sacrificed themselves in the cause of God like sheep and<br />

goats. Can anyone show us followers of any previous prophet,<br />

who demonstrated such sincerity and devotion? We have<br />

mentioned the companions of Moses as . Now let us turn <strong>to</strong> the<br />

Jesus’ disciples. One of them, Judas Iscariot, betrayed him in<br />

return for thirty pieces of silver. Peter, <strong>to</strong> whom had been<br />

committed the keys of heaven, cursed Jesus <strong>to</strong> his face and the<br />

remaining disciples deserted Jesus at the time of his trial. Not<br />

one of them remained steadfast. They all turned out <strong>to</strong> be<br />

cowards. In contrast, the companions of the Holy Prophet<br />

(peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) demonstrated such<br />
