258 With Love to Muhammad sa the Khātam-un-Nabiyyīn
when he said to his companion, “Grieve not, for
Allāh is with us.” Then Allāh sent down His peace on
him, and strengthened him with hosts which you did
not see, and humbled the word of those who
disbelieved, and it is the word of Allāh alone which
is supreme. And Allāh is Mighty, Wise. 252
It was necessary here for Allāh, the Exalted, to speak about a
companion of the Holy Prophet sa and the background to the
statement made by the Holy Prophet sa and that is why Allāh, the
Exalted, chose to discuss it in the verse. Similarly, Allāh, the
Exalted, mentions the “blind man” in the following verses
because it was important to do so:
عَبَسَ‏
ۙ اَنْ‏ جَآءَهُ‏ الاْ‏ ‏َعمْ‏ ‏ٰى‎۝ؕ‎
ٰٓ
وَتَوَ‏ لىّ‏ ۝
He frowned and turned aside, because there came to
him the blind man. 253
What follows is another example of Allāh, the Exalted, choosing
to discuss three companions of the Holy Prophet sa in the context
of a revelation:
وَّعَلىَ‏ الثَّلاَ‏ ثَةِ‏ اذلَّ‏ ‏ِيْنَ‏ خُلّ‏ ‏ِفُوْاؕ‏ ٰۤ حَتىّ‏ اِذَا ضَ‏ اقَتْ‏ عَلَيهْ‏ ‏ِمُ‏ الاْ‏ ‏َرْضُ‏ بِمَا
رَحُبَتْ‏ وَضَ‏ اقَتْ‏ عَلَيهْ‏ ‏ِمْ‏ اَنْفُسُ‏ هُمْ‏ وَظَ‏ نُّوْ‏ ‏ۤا اَنْ‏ لاَّ‏ مَلْجَاَ‏ مِنَ‏ اهللّ‏
اِلَيْهِؕ‏ ثمُ‏ َّ اتَ‏ بَ‏ عَلَيهْ‏ ‏ِمْ‏ لِيَتُوْبُوْا ؕ اِنَّ‏ اهللّ‏ هُوَ‏ التَّوَّابُ‏ الرَّحِيمْ‏ ۝ُ
ٰ ِ اِلاَّ‏ ۤ
َ ٰ
And He has turned with mercy to the three whose case
was deferred, until the earth became too strait for
them with all its vastness, and their souls were also
