Graduates are also employed by builders as project<br />

managers. In these roles they coordinate the administrative<br />

and construction planning aspects of building projects.<br />

Regulations<br />

Regulations relating to the course are as for other<br />

engineering undergraduate courses and are set out at the<br />

beginning of this section.<br />

Structure of the course<br />

The Bachelor of Technology in Building Surveying is<br />

structured as a cooperative or an industry based learning<br />

program, and consists of six academic semesters at<br />

<strong>Swinburne</strong> and two semesters in industry. The total length<br />

of the full-time course is four years and 400 credit points.<br />

First and second years are spent full-time at <strong>Swinburne</strong>. In<br />

third year, students spend the entire year working in<br />

industry. Employment is arranged by <strong>Swinburne</strong> and<br />

students are paid by the employer. Students benefit greatly<br />

from this first-hand ex~erience and a consistent liaison is<br />

maintained between the mentor, the employer, and the<br />

The fourth year is spent at <strong>Swinburne</strong>.<br />

Part-time study<br />

The course can be completed by part-time study. Students<br />

should consult with staff to plan a part-time program of<br />

classes from the required subjects of the course.<br />

Eligibility to apply for entry<br />

Prerequisite:<br />

4, Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics.<br />

Selection mode:<br />

:. TER and two-stage process with a middle-band of 20%.<br />

2 Applicants who have successfully completed any of Physics<br />

0 (Units 3 & 4), Chemistry (Units 3 & 4), or Specialist<br />

i. Mathematics will be deemed to have a TER up to 5<br />

percentage points higher for each study.<br />

Victorian Certificate of <strong>Education</strong> (Tertiary Orientation<br />

Program)<br />

VCE(T0P) courses are considered on the basis of a course<br />

of study equivalent to a Year 12 course. Prerequisite and<br />

recommended subjects are those equivalent to the Year 12<br />

subjects listed above.<br />

Admission with advanced standing<br />

Students who have completed an<br />

Associate Diploma in Building Surveying will be<br />

admitted with substantial exemptions.<br />

Associate Diploma or certificate of Technology course<br />

in a relevant area will be admitted with some<br />

exemptions, as appropriate.<br />
