To provide an introduction to the terminology and<br />

principles influencing the practice of risk management in<br />

practical areas of maintenance engineering.<br />

Content<br />

The syllabus will comprise a common subject applicable to<br />

all three streams of health and safety, plant and practice, and<br />

maintenance, followed by a subject covering specific<br />

management practice topics applicable to health and safety.<br />

Common subject loss forecasting and estimation; the<br />

structure of loss data management systems; review of risk<br />

identification principles: data surveys, work - group input,<br />

computerised data bases; data interpretation and reporting;<br />

review of risk interpretation techniques, management<br />

program audit and assessment processes.<br />

Maintenance maintenance engineering defined; life cycle<br />

maintenance engineering; mainntenance engineering and<br />

design; maintenance concepts; maintenance engineering<br />

analysis; testing demonstrations and evaluation, maintenance<br />

and equipment improvement; maintenance data collection<br />

and improvement; diagnosis and trouble shooting;<br />

maintenance facilities; maintenance management and<br />

Content<br />

Technology and practices in the safe operation and use of<br />

hazardous chemicals storage, handling and transport,<br />

machinery and tools (e.g., power presses, woodworking,<br />

metalworking, construction equipment), with particular<br />

reference to guarding requirements. Compressed fluids<br />

storage and transport, piping and tankage requirements,<br />

vehicles (fork lift trucks, mobile equipment, trucks and<br />

heavy transport), lifting equipment (cranes, slings, hoists),<br />

stairs, steps, ladders, walkways, platforms.<br />

Personal protection equipment selection, implementation<br />

and use.<br />

Emergency equipment and procedures breathing apparatus,<br />

gas and smoke detection devices, procedures design and<br />

maintenance.<br />
