Linear System Design: Review of root locus and frequency<br />

domain methods of analysis<br />

of a single input single output control system. Performance<br />

criteria and steady state error analysis. Design of<br />

compensators in the forward path and feedback path to meet<br />

a set of specifications. Root locus and frequency domain<br />

methods of analysis. Sensitivity of the system to parameter<br />

changes.<br />

Non-Linear Systems: Brief development of the describing<br />

function technique and the application of compensators to<br />

stabilise limit cycles.<br />

Linear System Analysis with State Space Techniques: State<br />

Space Analysis; State space representation of linear systems;<br />

Relationship between state space and transfer function;<br />

Solution of equations; Controllability, Observability and<br />

Stability of the systems; Eigenvalues and their relationship<br />

to system stability and dynamic performance; State feedback<br />
