completing the exemption declaration section on the form.<br />

Proof of exemption will be required.<br />

HECS refunds<br />

HECS refunds will be made to 'Upfront' payees where a<br />

student withdraws from the course on or before 31 March<br />

for semester 1 and 31 August for semester 2. Students who<br />

require a refund must apply to their Divisional<br />

Administration Office. A copy of the receipt must be<br />

provided.<br />

HECS liabilitv<br />

Students who withdraw from subjects or total enrolment<br />

after 31 March 1996 for subjects concluding at the end of the<br />

first semester or after 31 August 1996 for subjects<br />

concluding at the end of the second semester will incur a<br />

HECS liability for that semester.<br />

Students who withdraw from a full year subject after 31<br />

March 1995 will still incur a HECS liability for semester 1.<br />

Students who withdraw from a full year subject after 31<br />

August 1995 will incur a HECS liability for two semesters.<br />

Awards<br />

(application to receive qualification)<br />

Students eligible to be admitted to a degree or to be awarded<br />

a diploma, graduate diploma or certificate are required to<br />

apply for the award on the form prescribed. Forms are<br />

available from and must be lodged at the Awards Office,<br />

Room AD127 Administration Building.<br />

Applications for all awards close on 31 May (for students<br />

completing their courses at the end of first semester) or<br />

31 October (for students completing their courses in<br />

December) of the year in which the student anticipates<br />

completion of the academic work for the award.<br />

AUSTUDY (H. Ed.)<br />

Generally Austudy provides financial help, on an income<br />

and asset test basis, to students who are studying approved<br />

secondary or tertiary programs.<br />

Application forms and information can be obtained from all<br />

Commonwealth Employment Service offices and from the<br />

University's Housing, Part-time Employment, and Finance<br />

Office.<br />

Students applying for Austudy are required to provide<br />

details of their HECS load as calculated by <strong>Swinburne</strong>. The<br />

Confirmation of Enrolment provided to each enrolling and<br />

re-enrolling student gives details of this HECS load.<br />

Enquiries should be directed to the appropriate School or<br />

Divisional office.<br />

Students must submit a new calculation of the HECS load<br />

(which will be provided by the Division) if their load<br />

changes after any Amendment to Enrolment.<br />

Student Administration Office<br />

The Student Administration Office provides information<br />

and procedural advice on admissions, enrolments,<br />

examinations and awards. Other functions include<br />

processing identity cards, providing enrolment processing<br />

forms (e.g. amendment to enrolment form), result<br />

certificates, academic statements, enrolment status letters,<br />

authorising concession forms, certifying University<br />

documents, maintenance and storage of students' academic<br />

records and personal details and hire of academic gowns.<br />
