1050 Bachelor of Information<br />

Technology<br />

The course is offered only as a full-time program of three<br />

years duration. Students are actively engaged in the course<br />

for an average of forty-four weeks each year. There are<br />

eight segments in the course - four semesters, two summer<br />

terms and two twenty-week periods of industry based<br />

learning. These provide a course which is essentially a four<br />

year course completed in three years.<br />

<strong>Swinburne</strong> awards a scholarship to each student admitted<br />

to the course. Scholarship levels are expected to be an<br />

average of $9000.<br />

Application procedure<br />

Selection will be based on academic merit and interview.<br />

Applications must be made both through the Victorian<br />

Tertiary Admissions Centre and directly to the course<br />

authorities at <strong>Swinburne</strong>. Applications direct to <strong>Swinburne</strong><br />

must be received by 27 September 1996. Interviews will be<br />

held shortly after the end of VCE examinations. Deferment<br />

of offered places will not be possible. No alternative entry<br />

Career potential<br />

The course equips graduates with the knowledge to apply<br />

information technology within business and industry and<br />

provides them with an appropriate grounding in<br />

management education to prepare them for future roles in<br />

management.<br />

Bachelor of Arts (Honours)<br />

This program provides opportunities for selected students<br />

who have achieved a high standard in the major areas to<br />

undertake a specialised fourth year of study , graduating<br />

with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree. The honours<br />

year is offered in the areas of Cultural Studies, Industry and<br />

Community Studies, Languages, Psychology and Social<br />

Science<br />

The Bachelor of Arts(Honours) program is available to<br />

students who have completed all requirements for the<br />

three-year Bachelor of Arts course at a high standard. A<br />

Bachelor of Arts(Honours) qualification denotes strong<br />

academic performance and provides the background<br />

required to pursue a range of postgraduate studies.<br />

A four-year undergraduate course is required by most<br />

universities as a prerequisite to enrolment in masters and<br />

doctoral programs. In many cases, an Honours degree is<br />

preferred to other forms of fourth year study (e.g.,<br />

postgraduate diplomas).<br />

The Bachelor of Arts(Hcnours) program consists of five<br />

strands. Students will be required to complete two<br />

seminar/coursework subjects and a thesis which consists of<br />

two subjectsin one of five strands. The total program<br />

consist of four subjects.<br />
