Objectives and Content<br />

The intention in this subject is to provide students with the<br />

theoretical and analytical skills necessary for the<br />

understanding and evaluation of international financial<br />

issues which are of importance to the Australian business<br />

community and government.<br />

Topics covered include:<br />

the international financial environment;<br />

Australia's external position;<br />

exchange rate theories and systems;<br />

the operation of foreign exchange markets;<br />

the international financial system;<br />

international banking; -<br />

international regulation.<br />

This course is particularly relevant for students who may<br />

work in areas which have international financial or trade<br />

dealings.<br />

Objectives<br />

This subject aims to give students an understanding of the<br />

issues facing managers in organisations and the context in<br />

which they operate. Specifically, students will be introduced<br />

to a framework which focusses on management in relation<br />

to issues associated with contemporary Australian<br />

organisations.<br />

The subject also aims to enable students to better appreciate<br />

the context of work by:<br />

managing oneself and others in an organisational setting;<br />

operating effectively in large and small self-managing<br />

work teams;<br />

managing relationships with co-workers, consultants,<br />

and senior management. As well as providing students<br />

with an introduction to various aspects of knowledge<br />

associated with organising and managing, opportunities<br />

are provided to develop the following:<br />

appreciation of the value of independent study as well as<br />

the value of learning to be an effective group member;<br />

building on fundamental academic and research skills<br />

such as: use of the library and other information<br />

sources; analysis and synthesis; written and verbal<br />

communication skills; report and essay writing skills;<br />

interviewing and questioning skills.<br />
