AA208 Twentieth Century European Literature<br />

Objectives and Content<br />

This is an interdisciplinary subject which examines writers<br />

who have shaped the European consciousness. It provides<br />

students with the opportunity to study influential works in<br />

twentieth century European literature and through this to<br />

gain an understanding of some of the main intellectual<br />

currents in western culture.<br />

Note: %is subject is interdisciplinary and may be accredited<br />

towards a major in Italian, Philosophy, Literature or<br />

European Studies.<br />

Students who intend, on graduating, to teach Italian either at primary or<br />

secondary level or who do not wish to preclude this possibility should note<br />

that the exit point required in the Italian Studies major must be at the thirdyear<br />

post-VCE level. To achieve this, students need to transfer to the<br />

advanced stream either by enrolling in AA306 after completing AA2lO or by<br />

enrolling in AA307 after completing AA309. In both cases a credit is the<br />

minimum requirement to be able to transfer to the advanced course<br />

Obiedives and Content<br />

The main objective of this subject is to extend the<br />

knowledge of the Italian language thus gaining linguistic<br />

competence that will enable students to deal with a wide<br />

range of topics in the written and spoken language.<br />

Through a study of contemporary literature, students will<br />

be able to develop further their competence in grammar,<br />

vocabulary and idioms.<br />

Objectives and Content<br />

The main objective of this subject is to consolidate the<br />

knowledge of the Italian language and extend the work<br />

begun in semester one thus gaining linguistic competence<br />

that will enable students to deal with a wide range of topics<br />

in the written and spoken language.<br />

be able to develop further their competence in grammar,<br />

vocabulary and idioms.<br />

Introductory subject which outlines the historical, political,<br />

legal background of the European Union, analyses the role<br />

of European institutions and discusses the application of EU<br />

policy, with particular reference to Australian business.<br />
