Represents patients, including those with physical, mental, acute or chronic<br />
illness. Aims: to place the patients at the centre <strong>of</strong> health care; to improve<br />
the quality and service they receive; to improve the cost effectiveness<br />
and the availability <strong>of</strong> service; to protect the rights <strong>of</strong> present and future<br />
patients. The Association learns from the experience <strong>of</strong> patients and carers,<br />
assists them where possible, and works in partnership with the system to<br />
ensure that these needs are met. It sits on many policy and advisory bodies,<br />
and provides lectures and conferences. Often a first point <strong>of</strong> contact by<br />
media, nationally and internationally.<br />

Aims to conserve a representative sample <strong>of</strong> the bogs <strong>of</strong> Ireland for future<br />
generations to enjoy. Conservation projects include purchasing peatland<br />
nature reserves, providing resources and training for teachers and education<br />
groups, repairing damaged bogs, maintaining a database <strong>of</strong> peatland sites,<br />
fostering a positive attitude towards bogs, and encouraging lifestyles in<br />
harmony with the environment. Supported entirely by voluntary funding.<br />
Publications: Educational packs; general interest and technical publications;<br />
