Founded in 1953 to foster and promote the Irish language and its heritage<br />
throughout Ireland as a living language and as an expression <strong>of</strong> identity at<br />
policy and at community level. Gael-Linn’s programme can be divided into<br />
three categories: education, language promotional schemes and business. It<br />
is well known for the enterprises it founded in Gaeltacht areas and continues<br />
to implement its entrepreneurial philosophy through a broad range <strong>of</strong><br />

and encourage Irish-medium education at primary and post-primary level<br />
throughout the country. Services: in-service training courses for teachers and<br />
principals; training courses for boards <strong>of</strong> management; information, support<br />
and advice to parents and communities who wish to establish or develop<br />
Irish-medium schools. Liaises with the Department <strong>of</strong> Education and Science<br />
on behalf <strong>of</strong> the schools.<br />

The national challenge award which was set up under the auspices <strong>of</strong><br />
the President <strong>of</strong> Ireland for young people aged 15 to 25. Gaisce is noncompetitive,<br />
in that each young person who achieves his or her agreed<br />
challenge for a bronze, silver or gold award will receive that award. A<br />
challenge is agreed with a young person in four areas <strong>of</strong> activity: community<br />
