The Financial Regulator, established in May 2003, is the regulator <strong>of</strong> all<br />

financial services firms in Ireland. It also has an important role in the protection<br />

<strong>of</strong> the consumers <strong>of</strong> those firms. The Financial Regulator’s main tasks are<br />

tw<strong>of</strong>old: helping consumers to make informed and responsible decisions on<br />

their financial affairs in a safe and fair market, and fostering sound and solvent<br />

financial institutions which give depositors and other consumers <strong>of</strong> financial<br />

products confidence that their deposits and investments are safe.<br />

Statutory body established in 2005. It adjudicates in unresolved disputes<br />

between complainants and financial service providers. The service is free <strong>of</strong><br />

charge to the complainant and can be used by personal customers, limited<br />

companies with a turnover <strong>of</strong> €3 million or less, unincorporated bodies,<br />

charities, clubs, partnerships and trusts.<br />
