The Irish branch <strong>of</strong> Service Civil International, a worldwide movement<br />

working for peace, social justice, sustainable development and intercultural<br />

understanding through volunteering, international exchanges and education<br />

projects (2-3 weeks in 50 countries worldwide, including Ireland); 2-3<br />

month projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America; a youth programme for<br />

The national body with responsibility for promoting and developing<br />

volunteering in Ireland. VCI facilitates the national network <strong>of</strong> volunteer centres<br />

across the country, provides assistance and support to existing and emerging<br />

volunteer centres and promotes best practice in volunteering. VCI’s vision is for<br />

an Ireland in which everyone, no matter who they are or where they live, has<br />

access to volunteering opportunities that are fulfilling and engaging and which<br />

contribute to the development <strong>of</strong> community and the betterment <strong>of</strong> society.<br />

Lay Christian non-governmental organisation whose members share their<br />

lives, faith and resources to promote equality, respect and dignity for all. VMM<br />

responds to the needs <strong>of</strong> its project partners overseas by recruiting, planning and<br />

training pr<strong>of</strong>essionals to work with its partners in the developing world. VMM<br />

currently has over 50 volunteers throughout East Africa and Central America.<br />
