Provides breast cancer information and awareness free <strong>of</strong> charge through<br />

three Mobile Cancer <strong>Information</strong> Units based in the eastern, western and<br />

southern regions <strong>of</strong> Ireland. The three Mobile Cancer <strong>Information</strong> Units have<br />

been in operation since May 2001. The Foundation provides information to<br />

an estimated 9,500 people annually with an average <strong>of</strong> 521 women being<br />

referred to their GP for further evaluation.<br />

Formed in 1998 to inform and support charities in Ireland in the<br />

development <strong>of</strong> their medical research through one unified voice. Represents<br />

the interests <strong>of</strong> patients and its members on relevant statutory committees,<br />

and on national and international forums. As an alliance promoting medical<br />

research, the Group believes that medical research charities have many<br />

common goals and can, by working together more effectively, achieve<br />

a united purpose. Aims to raise the pr<strong>of</strong>ile <strong>of</strong> medical research, increase<br />

funding, and ultimately alleviate suffering and mortality caused by illness.<br />

The Group provides peer support, networking opportunities, information<br />

and training opportunities, leadership on issues relevant to medical research<br />

charities, opportunities for new funding sources and public awareness.<br />
