initiatives in relation to all immigrants; co-ordinating and developing<br />

Offers a self-help mental health programme for people suffering with<br />
anxiety, phobias, depression or nervous symptoms. At 32 locations, weekly<br />
meetings take place where techniques can be learned to control these<br />
symptoms and fears. For those who have been hospitalised, there is also an<br />
aftercare programme helping to prevent relapses.<br />

Independent body established at the discretion <strong>of</strong> the Minister for the<br />
Environment, Heritage and Local Government whenever a referendum is to<br />
be held. Its role is to explain the subject matter <strong>of</strong> referendum proposals,<br />
to promote public awareness <strong>of</strong> the referendum and to encourage the<br />
electorate to vote at the poll. Within six months <strong>of</strong> completing its functions<br />
for a referendum, the commission furnishes a report to the Minister and<br />
then dissolves one month later.<br />
