Provides free and confidential advice to consumers on their rights and<br />

entitlements in the EU. It <strong>of</strong>fers free assistance to consumers with crossborder<br />

disputes, liaising with its network <strong>of</strong> partner centres throughout the<br />

27 member states. The network also works with the European Commission<br />

in identifying problematic areas for consumers. An independent, non-pr<strong>of</strong>it<br />

company established in 1999 co-funded by the <strong>National</strong> Consumer Agency<br />

(NCA) and the European Commission (EC DG Sanco).<br />

The Irish Committee was established in 1984 to ensure Irish participation in<br />

the work <strong>of</strong> the European Cultural Foundation (ECF) and represent the ECF<br />

in Ireland. It aims to promote the following: cultural, social, scientific and<br />

educational activities <strong>of</strong> a multicultural nature and a European character;<br />

research into such activities; direct contact between Ireland and other<br />

members <strong>of</strong> the ECF; mutual understanding between Ireland and other<br />

European countries and an appreciation <strong>of</strong> mutual problems and needs.<br />
