Administers the Scheme <strong>of</strong> Compensation for Personal Injuries Criminally<br />

Inflicted. This scheme pays compensation for expenses and losses incurred<br />

as a result <strong>of</strong> personal injuries which are directly attributable to a violent<br />

crime or which are sustained while helping (or trying to help) to prevent a<br />

crime or save a human life.<br />

A statutory body established in 2001, the Agency is a planning and<br />

co-ordinating body rather than a service provider. It has been mandated<br />

to prepare and oversee a strategy to provide for the following: a reduction<br />

in the number <strong>of</strong> crisis pregnancies by provision <strong>of</strong> education, advice and<br />

contraceptive services; a reduction in the number <strong>of</strong> women with crisis<br />

pregnancies who opt for abortion by <strong>of</strong>fering supports which make other<br />

options more attractive; counselling services, medical services and other<br />

health services for the purpose <strong>of</strong> providing support after crisis pregnancy.<br />

Library or other information facilities are available by appointment.<br />
