The housing and homeless charity Focus Ireland works to prevent people<br />

becoming, remaining or returning to homelessness through the provision<br />

<strong>of</strong> quality services, supported housing and advocacy. Works with young<br />

people, single adults and families and believes that everyone has a right to a<br />

place called home which is safe, secure and appropriate to their needs. The<br />

Focus Ireland Crisis Desk provides information and advice to those who are<br />

homeless or at risk <strong>of</strong> becoming homeless.<br />

Established under the Food Safety Authority <strong>of</strong> Ireland Act 1998. The<br />

principal function <strong>of</strong> the Food Safety Authority <strong>of</strong> Ireland is to take all<br />

reasonable steps to ensure that food produced, distributed or marketed in<br />

the State meets high standards <strong>of</strong> food safety and hygiene and to ensure<br />

that food complies with legal requirements or, where appropriate, with<br />

recognised codes <strong>of</strong> good practice. The Authority is a statutory, independent<br />

and science-based body, dedicated to protecting public health and<br />

consumer interests in the area <strong>of</strong> food safety and hygiene. It comes under<br />

the aegis <strong>of</strong> the Minister for Health and Children.<br />

Publications: The Food Safety <strong>Information</strong> Centre contains a wide range <strong>of</strong><br />

material including books, journals, <strong>of</strong>ficial publications, audio-visual material<br />

and online databases relating to food safety. The Centre is open to the<br />

public, preferably by appointment, from 9.00am – 5.00pm weekdays. The<br />

library catalogue is available on the website.<br />
