Body responsible for the promotion <strong>of</strong> the Irish language on the island <strong>of</strong><br />

Ireland. Under the Good Friday Agreement, it was stated that a North/South<br />

implementation body would be established to promote the Irish language<br />

and Ulster Scots. Under the auspices <strong>of</strong> that body, Foras na Gaeilge will fulfil<br />

all the functions regarding the Irish language.<br />

Aims: the promotion <strong>of</strong> early education and care services through the<br />

medium <strong>of</strong> Irish; the setting up, support and maintenance <strong>of</strong> naíonraí (Irishmedium<br />

playgroups) and other Irish-medium childcare services for infants<br />

and children aged up to 12 years including creches, childminding, parent and<br />

toddler groups, and after-school services; promotion <strong>of</strong> the use <strong>of</strong> Irish in any<br />

early education and care service. Services <strong>of</strong>fered: advisory service; provision<br />

<strong>of</strong> training courses through the medium <strong>of</strong> Irish for naíonra personnel at<br />

basic level; FETAC Childcare Level 5 and 6; in-service and continuous training;<br />

development <strong>of</strong> materials for pre-school education and activities.<br />
