Promotes awareness <strong>of</strong> water safety in Ireland. Instruction is provided in<br />

swimming, water safety, survival, rescue and resuscitation techniques by a<br />

dedicated volunteer base <strong>of</strong> examiners, instructors and other personnel. Risk<br />

assessment <strong>of</strong> beaches and swimming areas is carried out for local authorities.<br />

The Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) is a national organisation <strong>of</strong> people<br />

with limited mobility. IWA’s goal is the full inclusion <strong>of</strong> people with physical<br />

disabilities in the community. It advocates for change, carries out research,<br />

develops and pilots new concepts <strong>of</strong> service delivery, and delivers service<br />

in partnership with state agencies. IWA has a broad range <strong>of</strong> services for<br />

people with physical disabilities: advocacy; assisted living services; resource<br />

and outreach centres; independent living apartments; interaction; motoring<br />

advice, assessment and tuition; transport; employment, training and<br />

education; wheelchair sales, rental and repair; sport; respite and holidays;<br />

peer counselling; information; publications; youth services.<br />
