Established to stimulate public interest in and promote the knowledge,<br />

appreciation and practice <strong>of</strong> the arts. Under the aegis <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong><br />

Arts, Sport and Tourism, the Arts Council is the State’s principal instrument<br />

<strong>of</strong> arts funding and an advisory body to the government on arts matters. It<br />

operates under the Arts Acts <strong>of</strong> 1951, 1973, and 2003. As an advocate for the<br />

arts, it commissions and publishes research and information and undertakes<br />

a range <strong>of</strong> development projects, <strong>of</strong>ten jointly with other public sector or<br />

Established in 1995 to provide support for people with Asperger syndrome<br />

and their carers. Asperger syndrome is a complex brain disorder that falls<br />

within the autism spectrum. The organisation provides a helpline, organises<br />

conferences and seminars, and <strong>of</strong>fers a supported employment service.<br />
