Provides support for parents and families <strong>of</strong> children with a congenital heart<br />
disorder. It <strong>of</strong>fers support in many ways: quarterly magazine with input from<br />
parents; free pr<strong>of</strong>essional counselling service to members; support group for<br />
teenagers, called Chairde mo Chroi; support for bereaved families; annual<br />
conference; social events where parents can meet. Supports Our Lady’s<br />
Children’s Hospital in Crumlin by funding nursing positions and also funding<br />
vital cardiac equipment for the Cardiac Unit at the hospital. Aims to raise<br />
awareness <strong>of</strong> congenital heart disease nationwide.<br />

body which has statutory responsibility for proposing policies and priorities for<br />

Statutory body. Co-ordinates, develops and promotes higher education<br />
in the State outside the university sector. Approves courses, and awards<br />
certificates, degrees and so on to students who successfully complete<br />
HETAC-approved courses in designated institutions. Ensures maintenance<br />
<strong>of</strong> standards and comparability <strong>of</strong> its awards with analogous courses and<br />
awards within the State and internationally. All HETAC awards are included<br />
in the <strong>National</strong> Framework <strong>of</strong> Qualifications launched in 2003. HETAC has<br />
delegated authority to 13 Institutes <strong>of</strong> Technology to make HETAC awards.<br />
