Aims to develop a comprehensive understanding <strong>of</strong> ageing and <strong>of</strong> the older<br />
population for all concerned with the welfare <strong>of</strong> older people in Ireland. The<br />
Council articulates the needs and concerns <strong>of</strong> older Irish people and makes<br />
recommendations on what actions should be taken to remedy problems<br />
encountered by them. The Council works to promote the health and social<br />
inclusion <strong>of</strong> older people. It advises on methods <strong>of</strong> meeting the needs <strong>of</strong> the<br />
most vulnerable among the older population and on means <strong>of</strong> encouraging<br />
positive attitudes to life after 65. Works to achieve better co-ordination<br />
among public bodies in the planning and provision <strong>of</strong> services for older people.<br />

Community-based counselling service for adults affected by childhood<br />
abuse in Ireland, in particular adults who experienced abuse while in the<br />
care <strong>of</strong> the State as children. Provides pr<strong>of</strong>essional, confidential counselling<br />
and psychotherapy services free <strong>of</strong> charge in all regions <strong>of</strong> the Health<br />
Service Executive. Clients can refer themselves directly or be referred by<br />
healthcare pr<strong>of</strong>essionals.<br />
