<strong>National</strong> advocacy body on ageing and older people. Committed to fighting<br />

discrimination and promoting positive ageing and securing high quality<br />

services for all older people. Believes that older people are central to driving<br />

forward these changes for themselves and succeeding generations. Provides<br />

an information and library service. Promotes innovation and good practice<br />

through educational programmes, projects and campaigns for the rights <strong>of</strong><br />

all older people. Runs advocacy programmes in the West, South East, North<br />

West and North Dublin. Also runs training courses for older people and<br />

carers <strong>of</strong> older people including reminiscence, media, age awareness and<br />

services through Irish. Offers an IT training course called Getting Started,<br />

which aims to provide older people with computer skills. The Care & Repair<br />

programme helps to carry out odd jobs for the older person (over 65) and<br />

provides a befriending service.<br />

Works to promote greater participation by older people in society. Works<br />

in a range <strong>of</strong> areas from the arts and physical activity to promoting age<br />

equality. Two <strong>of</strong> its best known initiatives are Bealtaine, the national arts<br />

festival celebrating creativity in older age (annually in May), and Go for Life,<br />

the national programme for sport and physical activity for older people. Also<br />

<strong>of</strong>fers AgeWise, age equality workshops to raise awareness <strong>of</strong> ageism among<br />

organisations making policy or providing services to older people. Runs an<br />

arts training programme for staff <strong>of</strong> care centres.<br />
