Co-ordinates the peace studies programme at Saor Ollscoil na h-Éireann<br />

(The Free University <strong>of</strong> Ireland). As part <strong>of</strong> its contribution to the United<br />

Nations International Year <strong>of</strong> Peace, the Centre organised a major<br />

conference which was addressed by a number <strong>of</strong> Nobel Peace Prize winners.<br />

From this conference, a Vision <strong>of</strong> Peace was established with a 5-year plan.<br />

Aims to alleviate the suffering <strong>of</strong> the children <strong>of</strong> the Chernobyl-affected<br />

region and bring hope for the future. It operates 16 aid programmes that<br />

have delivered over €70 million in humanitarian aid to the Chernobyl region.<br />

These include rest-and-recuperation holidays for Chernobyl children, a longterm<br />

medical care programme, an orphanage refurbishment programme<br />

and a humanitarian aid programme. The organisation has also delivered 200<br />

ambulances to the region for use by hospitals, orphanages and special schools.<br />
