State body set up to work towards the elimination <strong>of</strong> discrimination on the<br />

grounds <strong>of</strong> gender, marital status, family status, age, disability, race, sexual<br />

orientation, religion and membership <strong>of</strong> the Traveller community in regard<br />

to employment, vocational training, advertising, collective agreements,<br />

the provision <strong>of</strong> goods, services, accommodation facilities, education and<br />

other opportunities to which the public generally have access. The Authority<br />

deals with specific complaints <strong>of</strong> discrimination and also provides a free<br />

and confidential information service on the Employment Equality Acts and<br />

the Equal Status Acts. Legal assistance can also be provided in strategically<br />

important cases that fulfil certain criteria. A reference library and speakers<br />

are available by request.<br />
