Set up by Statutory Instrument in 1988 as the <strong>National</strong> Drug Advisory<br />

and Treatment Service, the Drug Treatment Centre Board (DTCB) provides<br />

services for drug misusers. The DTCB, in partnership with other statutory<br />

and voluntary agencies, provides prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and<br />

aftercare programmes for out-patients and in-patients in order to minimise<br />

the harmful effects <strong>of</strong> drug addiction and prevent the spread <strong>of</strong> HIV and<br />

other infectious diseases. Treatment is free <strong>of</strong> charge. Offers advisory service<br />

to medical pr<strong>of</strong>ession, parents, young people and teachers.<br />

Offers support, information, guidance and referral to anyone with a question<br />

or concern related to drug and alcohol use and/or HIV and sexual health.<br />

Provides support, advocacy and mediation services for people affected by<br />

HIV/AIDS. Prevention, education and training programme provides targeted<br />

HIV/STI training initiatives and issue-based training which aims to facilitate<br />

public awareness <strong>of</strong> social exclusion and marginalisation. Incorporates a<br />

resource library that houses information, specialist periodicals and journals<br />

regarding HIV/AIDS and associated issues.<br />
